Meeting: 25th June, 2005
Since this was our first real user group meeting I wasn't at all sure how it was
going to go, but as it turned out it went really rather well. Around 10 people turned
up, some old faces and pleasantly some new faces. A few classic Amiga's were present but
unfortunately no "next gen" machines made it, which was a pity but there's always next
time. I was running AOS4 on both my A1200 and on a loaned A4000 (thanks Robert), which
went down well with the people who turned up, I think they were all pleased with the
performance they saw. One guy commented something along the lines of "this seems as quick
as my microA1" and he was referring to AOS4 running on my 166mhz 603e BPPC A1200, so that
was nice.
Everyone said they enjoyed themselves and that they would come again, so the next user group
meeting is pencilled in for August time.
After the meeting a few (7 iirc) came back to my place for a BBQ and a few beers, which turned
out to be quite an eventful evening.... I live in a pre war semi-detached house and still have
(or rather had) an outside toilet.... Whilst I was manning the BBQ there was an almighty
clatter that came from the outside toilet building... followed by a trickle then a gush of
water coming from under the toilet door. Turns out the cistern literally fell off of the wall.
Thankfully Adrian had more sense than the rest of us and attempted to switch off the stop tap,
but because it's so old it wouldn't budge. Eventually we got it turned out however it also was
leaking like mad... But since we were trying to have a party we left it to flood out the back
garden and a professional plumber finally capped it off the following day.
I think a good time was had by all at both the meeting and at the after party and I look forward
to organising another event in a couple of month's time.
Thanks to all those who came and showed their support, there really are some great people out there!
