Commodore Seal of Approval
In an attempt to reduce the number of dodgy dealers among the Amiga
scene, Commodore UK launched an official seal of approval during
1994. Companies and products shown with the Commodore Quality Seal
of Approval were guaranteed that the peripheral or software would
be of the highest quality. David Pleasance, joint MD of Commodore
UK during 1994 commented at the time,
"We want to give users reassurance when they invest in a machine.
The seal of approval will provide that reassurance."
Several developers applied for the seal, including Power Computing.
However, some Amiga magazines questioned the awards value at the
time, citing the added cost of actually testing the products, in
comparison to magazine awards.
By Royal Appointment
As strange as it may seem the Queen of England has been a user of
Commodore computers since 1984 and awarded Commodore a Royal
Warrant of Appointment.
Chelsea Sponsorship: 1993 - 1995
In 1987, Commodore UK negotiated a £1.25 million
sponsership deal with Chelsea Football club. At the time this was
the largest amount of money that any UK football team had received
from a single sponsorship deal. The contract lasted three years but
was extended for a further three years. Football sponsership was
nothing new to the Amiga boys; Commodore Germany had already
sponsored Bayern Munich and Dynamo Kiev. The idea was later tried
by Sony who used it as a method of asserting the Playstation as a
fashion accessory. Sponsorship ended in January 1995 when Commodore
UK were unable to pay advertising fees.
The team strip was made by Umbro, it has the Umbro label in the
collar and also on the right chest(velveteen). On the left chest is
the club crest (sewn) and a large sponsors logo C= AMIGA
(velveteen) is across the midriff.
