Workbench has five basic types of icons that it uses to
distinguish the type of file- Disk, Drawer, Tool, Project, and
Trashcan.
Disk
The disk icon tells Workbench that it is a separate drive. This
allows a hard drive to be partitioned into separate drives that act
as a completely independent drive from the other partitions.
Drawer
The Drawer is better known to PC users as a directory or folder.
It allows files to be separated according to their type. Thus
allowing better organisation of the drive. For example, it can be
used to separate a group of pictures in different formats into
drawers of the same type.
Tool
A Tool is an executable file that is loaded when double clicked,
such as a game or application.
Project
A project is a file that requires another application to be
loaded to view it. This could be a picture or web page. Selecting
Information (or Info for WB1.3 users) and altering the default tool
can change the program that is loaded when a project is
double-clicked.
Trashcan
A trashcan, as the name suggests, is a place on the drive where
files can be dumped for deleting later. This has the advantage of
not deleting the file straight away, meaning if you realise you
have made a mistake you can easily retrieve it later.
