Search Menu
Edit Criteria
This function changes the interface on the screen to a totally
different format. Clicking EDIT CRITERIA will tale you into search
mode. See CHAPTER 3 for detailed information on how to use the
search functions in Huge Base.
Find String
This searches for a string though the whole of the database. If
you have selected one or more fields using the SELECT function in
the FIELDS menu then you will be asked if you want to search in ALL
of the fields or just the SELECTED fields. If no fields are
selected, all of the fields will be used.
Find and Replace
This function searches through the whole of the database and
replaces a string with another string. If you have any selected
fields, you will be asked if you want to find and replace in ALL of
the fields or just the SELECTED fields. Now, type in the string to
be searched for. Then, type in the replacement string. The find and
replace will now take place. All occurrences of the search string
will be replaced by the replacement string. Remember that the
replacement string can be an empty string. In this case, all
occurrences of the search string would be deleted. Note that if a
find and replace affects a date in a date field and makes it
invalid, it will not change so it is perfectly okay to find and
replace whilst including date fields in the process.
Count
This function counts all of the occurrences of a specified
string throughout a database. If you have selected fields then you
will be asked if you want to use only the SELECTED field or ALL of
the fields. Then you will be asked for the string you want to use
when counting. If you have some records selected, you will be asked
if you want to use the SELECTED, DESELECTED or ALL of the records.
After this, the count will be processed and then you will be given
a report which will state how many occurrences of the text you
typed were found.
