Linux/APUS

It was only a matter of time until someone ported Linux to the Amiga PPC in the form of Linux/APUS (Amiga PowerUp Systems). The project began during 1997 with the official support of Phase5 who even provided 3 developer boards to the port authors, Jes Sørensen, Roman Zippel and Jesper Skov. Linux/APUS is binary compatible with other PowerPC Linux ports currently available, including applications precompiled for Linux/PPC, with the exception of the X Server and a few other utilities designed specifically for that implementation of Linux. It is even able to run the Unix version of Netscape. This allows Linux software to be swapped between any other PPC Linux system and the Amiga, tapping into a sizable userbase.
