One AmigaDE friendly host processor (PPC, x86, Arm, SH4,
MIPS)
The choice of processor is dependent upon the manufacturer and
chosen market. Eyetech have already announced the development of a
PPC version of the AmigaOne, while several manufacturers have
demonstrated x86 compatible systems. The choice of processor is
more dependent upon price & market rather than compatibility:
x86 manufacturers will be able to dump legacy components of the
architecture; PowerPC developers will be able to use the IBM POP
specification to leverage the Amiga and Macintosh markets; SH4
manufacturers will be able to adapt the AMIE OE to their existing
systems.
64MB+ memory
This is considered a minimum to allow the operating environment and
applications to run comfortably. Expect system configurations of
256Mb or 512Mb.
Next Generation Matrox graphics card
The first releases of the AMIE OE will be optimised for an
as-yet-unspecified Matrox card. Matrox and Amiga's mutual plans
extend over more than one graphics chipset or product generation.
This will allow them to write for the next generation hardware
before it has been released.
Creative EMU10K1 based audio card
Again, this is a minimum specification.
10 Gb+ HD
10 gigabyte drives are becoming increasingly scarce, but are still
used for sub-£400 machines.
CD/DVD
Does not require explanation.
USB 1.0 & Firewire
The entire industry is embracing these standards.
10/100 Mbps Ethernet & 56k modem
The full benefits of the Amiga OE will be experienced when
interacting with other machines.
Spare PCI slots for expandibility
Why restrict the user to USB devices?
