What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small amount of data, of no more than 4000 characters, that is sent to your web browser from a web server. They were originally introduced as a way of tailoring web sites to the users wishes as well as storing information on your favourite sites. Many users distrust cookies as they keep information on the sites that you have visited, seeing it as a violation of their privacy with tones of "Big brother" watching your every action. Whilst they may not be anything illegal on the net many dislike the abuse that could result in information on a persons name and browsing habits being stored. One service that provides this is DoubleNet who link their adds to many web pages, so they may have information on you even if you have not visited their site. Most Amiga browsers, until recently, did not support cookies, however this could be an area that
