The Amiga isn't slow. It's just that it has always been sold
with the minimum specification possible, so very few of the low-end
models (A500, A1200) had hard drives or fast processors. This has
changed recently as more Amiga users have upgraded their machines.
You can speed up your Amiga in general by making the most used
commands resident in memory, cutting down on disk swapping. You can
make your Amiga go faster in a number of ways:
Get a hard drive.
They are very cheap now and you will actually be able to use
more Amiga games and utilities. To find out more click this link.
Get a CD-ROM drive.
Many games are now only coming out on CD, and you can get a
cheap double speed model for less than £20.
Get an accelerator.
Many games, especially Doom clones, need a minimum specification
of a 68030 processor and 6MB ram. These cost less than £100
and make your machine MUCH faster.
Get a Zorro breakout board.
This will allow you to take advantage of graphics cards,
Ethernet cards, and sound cards.
