Can I use PowerUP software under WarpOS?
For those who do not know what either of these are. PowerUP and
WarpOS are basic operating systems that allow the Amiga to use
PowerPC cards. The original software, PowerUP was released by Phase
5, the developers of the first PowerPC cards. However, this was
rather slow implementing a number of Unix characteristics to the
Amiga, such as the ELF format. WarpOS was released a few months
later by Haage & Partner. It improved on task switching between
the PowerPC and 68k, as well extending the Amiga HUNK format. Since
then development of PowerUP has ground to a halt and WarpOS has
been adopted as the standard for PowerPC on the Amiga. The only
problem is that WarpOS and PowerUP software are incompatible with
each other. The solution is to include PowerUP emulation for
WarpOS. This was originally provided seperately but is now part of
the WarpOS distribution. To run PowerUP software under WarpOS,
download WarpOS 4 or later from Aminet.
